It's an internet thing back home. You do something silly yet entertaining, and challenge other people to do it. Like putting on a t-shirt upside down...sometimes it benefits a good cause, like if you're challenged and you don't do it, you have to make a sizable donation to charity, but mostly it's just for the giggles.
And bragging rights. Bragging rights are the most fun.
