[ Evie doesn't mind when people see her face, but she's so flustered by something that she forgot to turn the vide on. For now, however, it's clear in the tone and how subdued she sounds that something is entirely amiss. ]

Those...posters all over town. The ones about skiiing...be careful staring at them for too long. I can't really explain it, but I started feeling...

[ Give her a minute. She needs to work out how to put this. ]

I want to say lost. I also want to say disconnected. Both?

[ A pause. ] We'll go with both. I'm not sure what could have caused it, so just...be wary. Okay?

[Oh, look! It's the blank-faced boy from before.] They'll give you one hell of a nasty headache, too. Something about this whole place is just... off. I've never seen anything like it.

[ Evie's going to switch to video for this, and she is much more colorful than her counterpart. Her hair is back to it's blue and the clothes Evie's wearing have more flare to them than the blacks Evie Wayne wore. She recognizes this boy and gives him a smile, albeit a sort of tired one. ]

I've been here long enough to see buildings appear out of nowhere. We were a beach town before, now we're a huge city. Garbage trucks vanish, there's no actual place to take garbage. And when shops move or change, the shop owners act as though the shop has always been in this location, or they've always sold what they sell now instead of what they sold before.

I'm used to magic, but this is something else entirely.

[The change is obvious, of course, but he still takes a moment to process all the changes, while he listens to what she has to say. It even manages to coax a facial expression out of him, his brows furrowing downward.] So it's direct interference, then. I guess that rules out anyone I know, or they decided to throw the rulebook out. [He was pretty sure if they'd done that, the changes would be a lot more... violent, though.]

So when you say magic... you mean like wizards with pointy hats and magic wands or..? [He has not, in fact, gotten the memo that some people hear are Magic yet. Or at least he doesn't believe it.] This whole mess would be a lot easier to sort out if there were something obvious they wanted from us, but it's never easy, is it? [He sighs heavily.]

I've learned magic varies from world to world, but in my world it can mean a lot. We have witches, wizards, fairy godmothers.

And a ban on magic. My mother is a witch, but we were blocked from magic where I grew up, so I didn't really get to learn anything.

So they were cutting their noses off to spite their faces? [Having magic and not using it just seemed stupid.] That kind of magic only exists in story books and movies where I come from. All the stuff that looks like magic in my world is just really advanced technology.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Magic was banned out of fear. I grew up on a prison island because people were terrified I'd be like my mother. She used her magic to try to murder someone, long before I was born. Most of the people on that island were magic users in some way who abused their abilities to harm others.

So it wasn't us that put the ban on ourselves. Others did, because they'd seen how much harm magic could cause, never mind the fact that some of their very own were very good people with magic.

Fear does funny things to people. Their reactions, while... very dramatic and probably in hindsight very over the top...were entirely understandable.

[Tobias visibly grows, feathers fluffing out.] So they're blaming you for your parents being screwed up? It's not dramatic and over the top, it's wrong. No one deserves to be punished for someone else's mistakes, no matter what that mistake was. [This is a hill he is willing to die on. And grow three sizes for, apparently.]

Breathe, my friend. Myself and a few others from the Isle are working our hardest to improve things. To get the kids that are still on the isle off of it and show them a better life.

I promise, I'm doing a lot better now. I even have my own very popular custom clothing line.

I have strong feelings about bullies. [And that sure as hell sounded like bullying to him.] Did you ever find a place for your shop? Or was that... temporary?

I think anxious would also be a good word to use too.

[ At least she'd felt little that way, thinking back. ]

Highly unnerved is a good phrase for it, too.

Agreed. Maybe also a little lonely?

[ Or a lot lonely. ]

Did you feel that as well?

I think so. Yeah...I remembered wanting to find my people, and found myself stuck on people who weren't here. There was a hideous fear I'd never see them again.

[ Rosabella nods. ] I felt the same way. Missing home and everyone back there suddenly, so deeply, and just...terrified that I'll be stuck here, separated from them forever.

Are you feeling better? Hot chocolate is helping. If you want some, you're free to come by.

[ It's not so much the hot chocolate helping as it's the distraction of it. Of making it just right and holding the very warm cup in her hands as she watches the video from town. ]

[ She considers this for a moment, then manages a smile. ]

Well, I am feeling a bit better. But I wouldn't mind some hot chocolate.

[ Or some company. ]

I kind of felt the same. [ Allison frowns, concerned. ] I was trying to read the name and I couldn't.

It's fading. Finally, but it was just so uncomfortable when it happened. And the name not being there really is bothering me. I'm trying to think if there are any spells that my mother might have mentioned, or maybe I saw something in my best friends spellbook that'd reveal it, but I can't recall anything.

Spells? Do you...do a lot of magic?

I really don't. I grew up where magic was banned. Too many incidents with people using their magic to cause harm. So while I am a witch? I...have a lot to learn, I'm afraid.

I will keep that in mind.

[Beast has seen them around town himself but he hasn't given them much thought till this moment.]

Please do, and please be careful. The feelings I got from those posters...they weren't all that pleasant. I wouldn't wish them on anyone.

[Beast sounds a bit hesitant in asking if only because he's so unused to caring about anyone but himself.]

I'm improving. Slowly. I'm settled at home with projects for people I see every day, and am drinking hot chocolate. It's distracting enough to help.

Can I--? I mean would you mind--?

[Sorry, Evie, he's still of the mindset people are going to scream in fright and run away if he asks to see them in person.]

[ She knows a different version of himself, and knows what beast looks like cursed and otherwise. She's the last person to run away in a panic. ]
