[ Eugene has some news for the citizens at large and it's very odd news to share. ]

Small update on the whole 'ending up back at the info booth if you try to leave the boundaries of town' thing.

Uh...there is no info booth. For starters. Jerry now works in the hotel at the front desk.

Aaaalso...there are guards patrolling the walls of Driftcrest? Did we have guards anywhere else? I don't think we did.

[ Does he sound nervous? Almost on the edge of a panic attack? Yes. This is familiar. It's uncomfortable. ]

I-I've never seen guards armed with incendiary weaponry before. I will say this much; they don't seem so keen on watching people inside the walls so much as they're...really interested in keeping their eyes on beyond?

If that makes sense? And they really want people inside at sunset. So that's like...really worrying.

I wouldn't put an information booth out in the middle of the snow. What kind of heater would you use?

I've seen some really good ones used at ski resorts back home. But, fair point.

That's what it looks like. I want to see what they're armed against, but each time I try to fly over the wall, I just end up in the middle of town again.

Well, I'm glad Jerry is someplace much warmer! I would hate for him to be out in such cold in such a little area.

But, it's not all that uncommon for a city to be walled. [It was, in fact, the standard practice in her day to protect said city.]

It's not really a thing where I'm from. Walled cities, I mean.

Oh, where are you from? Because nearly every kingdom in Europe has at least one.

Seattle, Washington. It's in the United States.

It's a very open city. The only place walled in with guards was Curdun Cay station, but that wasn't a good place to be.

Not really. It's just familiar. Walls and armed guards, I mean. The only difference being when they say it's for our safety, they sound like they mean it.

I thought about hanging out near the walls when the sun goes down. Just to see what happens.

I've been considering that, too. They're pretty adamant about people getting inside after sundown. But that's only the people they can see.

[ It helps being able to turn invisible at will. ]

[ She can't do the invisibility thing but she won't let that stop her. ]

Maybe we should try it together? Just in case there is trouble and we need backup?

Instead of replying via text, he accidentally hits audio which is really embarrassing because now he can't stop himself from stuttering out the following. ]

I-I didn't mean...not that I'd s-say no to a...it's just...please don't think I'm trying to push or a-anything. I'm not.

[ Can whatever they're guarding against on the walls please come swallow him alive? That'd be great. ]

[ Tandy doesn't really get any time to react to that whole thing as he turns on the audio and starts babbling. Correction, he's stuttering and it's adorable.

While I wouldn't say no to a date, would a stakeout really be a good place for...a date? A first date?

[ That stops his stuttering. It stops him from speaking for a moment or two, processing what he just heard her say.

That makes Eugene question everything he's ever known about Life, The Universe and everything in between. And it makes him smile, a change in tone clear in his voice. ]

Yeah? You'd be okay with a date?

[ That's the best thing he's heard in a while. ]

What if...the stake-out is after a date? There's a movie theater in town that lets you order food from your seat in the theater. That...could be fun?

[ Tandy almost feels bad at first but things are different here. There are certain people who aren't here and certain people who are. Like Eugene who has been nothing but sweet to her. Sweet and oddly charming in his own way.

Plus he sounds so happy and she kind of wants a piece of that. She likes feeling good around him. ]

That's what I said, right? Also, I swear it has nothing to do with seeing you shirtless.

[ She also can't resist teasing him at times. ]

But yeah, that actually sounds like a good idea. Do any of the movies look interesting to you? I don't mind letting you pick this time.

[ He's still very embarrassed about that whole thing, Tandy. But he's grinning just a bit. ]

Uh...they have a bunch of really old movies. Like...from the early 80's? THere's a fantasy film set. Willow. Dark Crystal. Labyrinth. And there's an 80's horror set. Nightmare before Christmas, Friday the Thirteenth and Troll.

Nope, probably not.

[ Can he hear the cheeky smile? ]

I'm leaning more towards the fantasy set if you're good with that?

Oh, thank God. I thought I'd have to pretend horror films don't scare me.
[ They actually don't, but at this point he's flirting just a bit by making fun of himself. ]

Okay. Fantasy it is. It starts at twelve-thirty and ends sometime around six-fifteen. We can walk around a bit after to see if we notice anything. How's that sound?
