We have a situation at the statue garden, guys.

The older ice statues are changing. I thought they were melting, but then I looked closer. They're looking less human. More like what I sort of remember from being attacked by the Unseen.

Just...look...

[ And he sends a few pictures. They're of the same statues, the first pictures he sends are older. From a few weeks ago. But the pictures he sends now, of the same statues, are clearly different. Hunched over just a bit. The facial expression less serene and more angry. Teeth showing and sharp, eyes a bit bigger and somehow more sinister. ]

I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't think I want my friend turning into one of the Unseen, so I'm pretty sure we have to do something to stop this for good. I'll be at the library trying to research things. Come join me. I'm really not the best at this.

Just a bit, yea. I really am not a fan of how things are going with these statues, especially since my best friend is one of them.

I'd say Starkbucks, but they're closed. The owner and a few baristas are also missing.

I just arrived here. What are the 'Unseen'?

monsters that attack anyone out at night. you see the guards and what they're carrying?

I haven't yet, but I will tonight.

Does anyone know what type of 'monsters' are out there?

Other than when they attack they can leave ice covered injuries?

No. We barely know what they look like. I was attacked pretty brutally by one a few days ago, but I couldn't tell you what they looked like. Just that when my injuries started healing, they weren't covered in regular scabbing. It was blue, crystalline. Reacted badly to heat. Left some blue scarring behind.

They manipulate emotions. Fear. Paranoia. If you're around, you'll feel it and you'll want to run. They herd people to locations to attack and they really hate fire.

Really, really hate it.

I work at the library. I've been looking over things so far. Be prepared to be stuck in the library though, several of the books can't be checked out.

I don't mind researching at the library. Would it be too big an ask to ask you to grab any book you might think is relevant for me? Honestly, I don't know what I'm looking for.

Do any of us really know? I've already been pulling books for anything that might help shine a light on what is going on.

I don't know if anyone's told you, but this place changes. Every so often we wake up and everything's different. We went from a beach resort town to a large city to here. And the residents don't notice. To them, it's always been this way.

It was always Beachville when we were there. It was always Wechester when we were there. Now, it's always Driftcrest.

No, this is the first I'm hearing of it. Jerry's not much help and the locals as you mention only seem to know about Driftcrest.

Do you really think they're turning into Unseen though? People themselves, not the statues.

My thinking is the statues are the people. How, I don't know. We had a guy back home who could turn people into mutant bug/human hybrids, so I wouldn't be surprised if this how Unseen are created.

...this being after an Unseen attacks a person.

Well, that's kind of morbid. If the statues are the people, maybe it's like some kind of magical stasis? Like butterflies in cocoons.

[Except instead of turning into beautiful insects they were turning into terrible monsters...somehow.]

There's got to be a way to reverse it, or else we're going to have a lot more Unseen on our hands if this really is how they're created.

Wouldn't it be great if they came out with butterfly wings and not ice-injury inducing fangs and claws?

I'd take butterfly wings any day over fangs and claws.

I've noticed the statues changing too.

[ It was hard not to notice. But now that someone mentioned it, the statues did seem a little similar to the little he could remember of the Unseen when he'd been attacked too. ]

It's probably both the most obvious but worst possibility, but are they starting to become more Unseen?
