Oh ah... h-hello, my name is Alice Liddell, I live with Mr. Stark. I beg your pardon for a moment.

I... I'm to attend school here but... I don't... I've never been to a "modern" school. I don't know what to bring or what to expect.

What if the teacher and other students don't like me? [First grade is scary in any place, especially when you're not even in your own home. The only child her age who is not native is Shinich and well... he's not a typical 7-year-old. Neither is she, for that matter.]

Why wouldn't they like you? You seem nice enough. Who did you get as your teacher anyway? I have Mr Phillips.

So, the kitten cafe is in it's old location. What are you doing after school on Wednesday?

[ She may already have her kitten. It's curled up on her lap, sleeping with it's four paws in the air. A calico kitten with a very round belly, his name-tag reads Miles and Gwen's address is on it. ]

I probably should have asked May if I could bring him home, but he kept climbing into my backpack while I was doing homework on Saturday and started crying each time I took him out.

[ There's a soft, sleepy meow from Miles and the kitten starts chasing things in his sleep, paws flailing in the air before he settles and keeps sleeping. ]

But...he needs a playmate and there was this really pretty ragdoll kitten named Susan that I think you'd like.

Oh, sweetheart--and you are just so sweet!--your teacher and your classmates will just love you.

[So she's Stark's little one, hmm? Interesting.]

You know what? I have an idea--do you think Mr. Stark would mind a visitor? Because I'd be happy to come by with some treats, tell you all about modern schools, and if he's not opposed? I could help you do your hair extra pretty. Maybe like mine?

[Her phone shifts, giving Alice a view of the French braid her mane of blonde hair has been tamed into for the day.]

[Alice's face goes a deep red from all the compliments. Ah, she's so pretty! And so nice! She's sure Mr. Stark wouldn't mind a nice and pretty woman coming by to help her!]

Oh ah, no, I don't think Mr. Stark would mind at all, miss! I would very much appreciate all the help I can receive about modern school. AN dI would greatly appreciate my hair to look anywhere near as pretty as yours.

Because it's modern and I'm very much... not.

I have Mrs. Heart... I hope she's not anything like the Queen of Hearts. I hope she's much nicer.

Ah! Yes, I would like to do that very much! And I'm not doing anything, I should think? Do I need to get a job like you have?

... Does she have to keep the name Susan, though, mightn't she like a different name?

You'll be fine. Miles wasn't named Miles when I got him. His name was Loki because the shopkeeper thought he was a troublemaker. But he's not. He's adventurous and clumsy, but far from a troublemaker.

[ This is when Miles sticks his face in view and meows softly, batting at the feed and then climbing Gwen's white and pink hoodie up to her arm to gently headbutt her in the face. Only to promptly tumble off and back onto Gwens lap. At this, she raises an eyebrow in amusement, the look on her face clearly one that says 'see what I mean?' ]

[ He overheard the conversation with Shinichi about her concerns in adapting to a modern school and has a suggestion. ]

You know, there's an option to take school supplies home and study there. If you think it could help you out any, why not try that? I'll help. I can teach you how to use all of the more modern stuff easily. It's what I used in school.

Oh, that would be very kind of you, sir. I will ask my teacher if that would be alright. I hope she's nice, though. Her name is Mrs. Heart, the last person that I knew with a name like that had a very short temper.

Looking out for me? No, I'm not lost. He knows exactly where my room is.

[Alice, no, that's not what she means.]

I would love a kitty. I miss mine.

I mean he's taken guardianship of you and is making sure you're taken care of. He's cool. I'm glad he did that.

Let's get you a cat, then. We'll get you through the first week of school and then get a cat.

No problem. I think Shinichi's going to the same school. He's living with me at my apartment. Come over after school with all your school supplies and we'll get started. Or if it's too much to carry, have Shinichi call me. I'll send a friend to help.

Mr. Stark isn't cool, he's warm, he gives some of the warmest hugs. [Forgive her, Gwen, she's from 1875.]

Frabjous day! I shall think of a very good name for her. Susan is... a pleasant name, but a cat must have a special name, you know! Mr. T.S. Eliot said so!

Oh, I'm glad he's not living by himself.

[ New Life Goal: Get Alice to learn the word 'yeet'. And the 'baby shark' song. Her trolling of Mr Stark continues, even if they're not on the train anymore. ]

I think you're going to come up with the best name for this cat. You seem like the kind of kid who can look at a pet and know exactly what to call them.

[ If you think there's disappointment in his voice that they aren't in the same class you're wrong. He doesn't care. Why should he care? He's fine on his own. ]

That shouldn't matter. We're all going there to learn, right? So, I don't think that should have an impact on things.

If anyone messes with you, I can make sure they stop. You seem nice and it's not fair if people are mean to you just because you're different.

[Teach her the song, Gwen! She loves music! And she's seven! That song was made for her age group!

At Gwen's comment, she blushed at the compliment.]

Well, every cat has a proper name, you know, one that people don't even know. I read it in a book here. I can't wait to get a kitty. I love cats so much, and I miss my Dinah.

How do you do, Mr. Sims? It's a pleasure to meet you as well!

My apologies. [Alice has NO control on whose class she's in, but she feels like she should apologize.]

Of course it shouldn't matter, Shinichi, but it does. I don't even think you use slates anymore here.

I don't think anyone will be MEAN about it. [Oh Alice...]

[ She has it on her iPhone. One day she'll play it while she and Alice are around each other and hum along. If Alice visits her at the music store, she'll play it on the piano or drum along, just to really get it into her head. ]

[ She turns to look at Miles who has discovered his tail and is batting at it, rolled over onto his back with his paws stuck up in the air. ]

Do you have a proper name that I don't know of?

[ The kitten stops what it's doing and stares up at Gwen with big, blue eyes. ]

What's your name, dude?

[ The kitten lets out a squeak of a meow and rolls back onto his feet, headbutting Gwen on the chin and purring loudly. She smiles and looks at Alice. ]

I think that's his way of saying it's none of my business.

Same to you. Ask whoever's taking care of you first, but if you can, come over after school on Tuesday and we'll see what we can do to get you started.

That's alright! I'm sure he'll tell it to you when he's ready, or I'll suss it out for you!

Can we get the kitten right after school?

Probably not. [ He's not sure about that but he's not about to admit that he doesn't know something. ]

I don't know, kids can be really mean sometimes. But if they are, you can just tell me and I'll take care of it.
