I have a couple of questions for y'all, and I'd be much obliged if you could answer them.

1.) How many realities have you visited, and what were they like?
2.) What is the last thing you remember before coming here?

It probably goes without saying that I'm new around here. There's not much to say about myself, really. Name's the same as the username, this place is a step up from home; the usual, I'm sure.

The last thing I remember before coming here was a train. Not the one that stops in Haven. A different one that travels through a place called The Void.

A train, huh. I take it you have plenty of experience with this? What sort of places did the train visit?

I wouldn't say I have plenty of experience. Let's go with 'more than I'd prefer'.

The various places we visited always seemed to be worlds that needed help. We were dropped off for missions and always found ourselves back on the train when the missions were over.

There was one world with goblins attacking and stealing children, another that was dying. We had to convince the people there to leave. It was difficult. A lot of them didn't believe their world was coming to an end.

This place seems similar, t least. Though I guess "needs help" doesn't quite fit the mold. It definitely looks like it's a world in decline, though.

I have experience with that, people not believing that their worlds were dying. Folks don't want to hear it, and I can't exactly blame them. It's a nasty prospect to know there's nothing that can be done.

1. Presumably, this is not any of our original worlds, and I've seen talk to indicate that this isn't the only new reality some have been to. If this is only the second you can say as much.

It's definitely not my home world. I don't recognize the animals outside the city limits.

And we definitely don't have two suns or lack a moon at night.

It's a weird looking place, isn't it? I wonder what the oceans are like. On Earth, the moon controls the tides. Though, since the sky's been blotted out by permanent clouds, I suppose it could have been destroyed at some point. No one would really know if it had been.

It's a first for both of us; this is more in line with stuff from old books and movies than real life for me.

I've been wondering that myself. There's no moon at night. Just the aurora. But it's also so dry here I wonder just how close to any oceans we are, anyway.

It'd be nice to see one. It's been years since I've been near one.

Where I'm from, nobody lives close to the ocean anyway, so I'm not sure I'd be able to recognize what tides look like to begin with.

Me, though, the last thing I remember is being on a great, big, endless Beach.

1. I'm sorry to hear that, is not a good situation. They came to ours to try to try to prevent our world from turning into something like theirs. I hope there's some chance in yours to fix things.

2. Yeah, outer space. It's really beautiful, I can't imagine not seeing stars. Why can't you see them where you're from?

It's a bit of a story.

The summed up version is that the land of the dead and the world of the living merged in an accident called the Death Stranding. These particles from the Beach, the land of the dead, became trapped in the atmosphere and blotted out the sky in permanent clouds. It cut off communication with the rest of the world in an instant; the chiralium in the atmosphere means satellite communication is impossible.

There's a network that uses chiralium as a means of communication, but it really only works across the continent, so other countries are still completely cut off, if they even still exist.

[There's probably several questions in there, one of the biggest ones being the implication that the internet is now powered by purgatory.]

At least this place is letting me see that my life wasn't nearly as weird as I thought it was. I want to ask how the chiralium somehow makes it's own network that you can use to communicate, but I'm not sure I'd get it.

If you were on the Beach before you got here, does that mean you were in the land of the dead?

Oh, the network is all technology. The Internet, the technology they used before, was fiber optics. It was long strands underground, some of them spanning across continents under the ocean.

The Chiral network is like that, except it uses the abundance of chiralium in the atmosphere instead of relying on enormous physical wires.

You'd be correct. More specifically, the Beach is a waystation of sorts. You're not meant to STAY there, but those who die end up stuck; the only way to move forward it to destroy the body otherwise they try to come back. They're not human anymore when that happens.

Just so we're keeping our terminology clear.

I actually am familiar with other planes of existence. Just the one, though, and it's not a fun one.

2.) I'm actually kind of surprised I'm not hearing that answer more. I've got experience with that, myself. I don't stay dead, though. It's actually a whole thing.

Personally, I don't see the point in not just using your name. These names all confuse me. Everyone just uses their full names where I'm from, for the most part.

1) I do mean another planet, yes. I have visited several, each with its own rules governing physics. It's very possible we've simply been spirited away to some far-flung section of the universe.

1.) Right. That works. I'm talking the more metaphysical kind, really. Realities layered atop each other. It's not a pretty picture when it happens, though.

I really don't get it. There aren't even a million people left alive left alive where I'm from. Usernames are pointless.

I'll have to take your word for it. The Beach was a novelty the first time I saw it, but that wore off pretty quickly. This place is a step up from where I'm from just by virtue of the fact that the rain isn't trying to kill you.
