[ Eugene's at the edge of town and beside him, a couple of his angels, all flashing lights and digital pixelation as they flit around behind him. ]

So, I know we can't leave. We end up right at the information booth. My friends and I [ Eugene points some, indicating the hardlight constructs behind him. ] we've been trying to find a weak-spot or something but no such luck.

I want to try something, though. I threw a softball at the edge of town and it vanished. About three hours later, a courier came to work with a package for me. It was the softball. No note or anything, and I can't really figure out how they knew it was mine.

But...I need a volunteer to stand at the information booth. I want to throw the softball again and if it shows up at the information booth, let me know? For all we know, inanimate objects end up somewhere else and not with Jerry, but it'd be one less question we have to worry about if it does end up at the info hub. Right?

Get back to me if you think you can help out. My friends can only go so far before they weaken and vanish.

Since you're gathering information, perhaps we should share our experiences with the boundary.

If an animal, one that we own at least, crosses the border, it will return to its home.

[As Gansey speaks, a baby goat shoves her head next to Gansey's. Smiling he begins to scritch her ears.]

With no ill effects.

I hadn't noticed that the native species were avoiding the border, but I've bee busy keeping our animals from crossing over.

[He shifts his head to indicate Drill Bit.]

It may be that she's too young to have that aversion.

[Or the fact that she's a magical creatures, but Gansey's not going to mention that to someone he just 'met'.]

The border is the edge of this dimension?

[That's a tricky question but Gansey's expression doesn't show any sign of his hesitance to answer the question. He isn't lying, not quite. She is a pet and she's probably from his universe since she's Ronan's reaction.]

She's a pet from my universe.

Our raven doesn't go near the border, but she usually stays with Ronan. He's made sure not to go near it when she's with him. I've seen her fly back when we were near the boundary, but I'm not certain if that's because she senses something or she doesn't want to be too far from him.

It could be both. Ravens are clever creatures.

[And Chainsaw is unique even without her unusual 'birth'. She'd seen more magic than most people.]

I'm Gansey.

Would you let me know what happens with your softball experiment? I haven't been actively researching what happens at the borders since we've been getting our house set up, but I've been gathering what information I can so I can start once we're settled.
