[ That...would be the voice of someone who is very Unsure of talking to other people. There are many, many reasons for it. Mountains of them, in fact. But he's trying. He wants to improve, so he's doing his very best to speak and reach out. ]

D-did anyone else see the flyers around town? About the Food and Film Festival? I dunno about anyone else, but I think it sounds kinda cool. Sort of makes me miss the food trucks in Seattle. Plus, movies on the beach sounds pretty amazing, right?

[ He might also be gently poking to see if anyone he has met is going. Familiar faces, and all that. ]

If you're going, what part of it are you looking forward to?

I was actually kind of hoping to get your thoughts on a couple of them. Especially those with big fight scenes.

Are we talkin' one of those blockbuster pieces of shite with all the guns and the flippy bits? Or somethin' a bit more classic Hollywood? Wasn't payin' attention to the titles.

[ She chuckles, feeling rather smug. ]

But you might hate me when you actually enjoy yourself.

I could not hate you more than I do now.

[Laughing as he says it, still this smile--he's the world's least convincing liar right now. He finally gives up the joking, though, and resigns himself to his fate.

Resigns himself--indeed. He was popular with the men, but feared, a good ally in a fight. He wasn't as used to just plain socializing.

He was finding that he was somewhat excited about it.]

If we're doin' this, however, we do it properly. Dinner, then the show--my treat.

Oh, I'm very aware of how much you hate me.

[ She chuckles in amusement, shaking her head. She can tell that he isn't being serious because there is no chill or cutting sharpness to his words or his behavior towards her.

Then he surprises her with the mention of doing things properly. ]

Sure. [ A small pause. ] One of the food trucks?

[the_nose]

Aye. Was thinkin' we could make an evening of it--and if we're bein' perfectly honest here, I'm still not quite bored of food yet so I've a hankering to try all I can.

[Dinner and a movie. It's a good night for friends.

And it's not a date. Just...comrades, remembering how to be people for a while. That's worth looking forward to.

[ It sounds friendly, right? Not a date which is good because she can't wrap her mind around that yet.

Just friends figuring this world out and trying to distract themselves for a bit. ]

I definitely want to check out the pizza place. I'm working at the ice cream place sometimes but I'll be free enough for us to do something.
