[ There seems to be another new face on the feed today, one that looks a little weary and scruffy as he scratches the side of his cheek with a bit of a frown. Clearly, he hasn't gotten a lot of sleep lately, but it's hard to say whether that's due to his arrival in this new place or the events beforehand. Maybe it's all of the above.

Dropping his hand out of view of the camera, he finally speaks. ]

I guess I should introduce myself, I'm Detective Nick Burkhardt from Portland, Oregon. I've only been here for a couple of days but I got the gist of what's going on from the man named Jerry at the information booth and just from scoping things out but a lot of it really doesn't make sense at the moment.

[ He sighs. ]

I guess the main thing I want to know besides how to get back home is what to expect here. Also, is there any kind of police department or any other emergency services in case there is trouble?

[ The smile on her face is charming, patient and kind. Nick is new and while Evie's been in this place long enough to understand how quickly things can change, she doesn't quite know enough about Haven, but hopes what she does know can help some. ]

There is in fact a police department. It's just outside the market. One of the better looking buildings in town. HPD is spray-painted above the door.

It's sort of a blink and you'll miss it building.

[ Nick returns the smile with an easy charm despite the weariness he is feeling. He's used to things changing quickly and not making sense at first but this is a whole new level of that. ]

Okay thanks, that's good to know. Is it a very big place? Are there many cops?

I'd be really curious to learn about the police department in this place. Admittedly, I haven't stopped in there yet.

It's nice to meet you. Also, those are impressive credentials. I know how busy we are in Portland, I can't imagine what it's like in New York.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind checking it out too. I missed it but someone said there is one.

I stayed busy. [ Fortunately, Manhattan seemed to be a hotbed of bizarre crimes. At least he wasn't bored. ]

I haven't seen any of them out patrolling the streets, so I wonder what they actually do.

I get that. [ Portland had the same issue with bizarre crimes that he always seem to find himself in the middle of. ]

It sounds like they might not do a lot. Someone did mention there is tension between the locals and people like us.

Yes, that's true. They don't trust us at all. Honestly, I can't really blame them.

[ And kind of exhausting, let's not forget that. ]

I don't either. Especially since we've dropped in out of nowhere and we're a strain on their already low supplies.

[ Add in a father who happens to be a serial killer and wants to insert himself into Malcolm's cases and it's very exhausting. ]

You're right. I've tried to do some investigating about what exactly happened in this place, but the locals don't want to talk. We're probably going to have to try to figure it out on our own.

[ Okay, maybe his mother who had faked her death and was a killer in her own way wasn't so bad anymore. ]

I don't suppose they have books or something anywhere? [ He was used to research these days. ]

Maybe you’ve had better luck than I have but there’s been trouble since stepping off the train and nobody seems to wanna do shit about it.

[ Diego doesn’t need a badge to take care of trouble. Maybe just his mask, dark clothing and array of throwing knives. Not that he was judging the detective.

I've noticed a couple of things, yeah, which is why I asked.

[ He really doesn't need the badge either but he is used to it. Even if it has been tricky to get around once or twice. Not that this guy needs to know that. ]

What sort of things have you seen so far?

Haven’t noticed any emergency services. Just the asshole locals being assholes to anyone not local.

How so? [ Maybe he will have to do some patrolling. ]

For a detective, you’re not really observant. [ Diego stared unamused. ]

People are rude as hell and like to steal from those who aren’t local. Let’s not even get to the local wildlife.

[ Nick blinked at that but he was taking it in stride. ]

I was just asking questions from someone who has been here longer than I have. If you would rather I ask someone else?

[ He said it angrily, feelings from his world were coming to the surface. ]

And I haven’t been here long. [ So not to answer Nick’s question directly, he didn’t need to ask someone else. ]

I wasn't intending on getting myself killed but I'm not going to ignore it if people are getting hurt.

[ There is a quiet confidence to his voice but it has gentled as well when he sees a surge of anger from the other man. ]

But you've seen more than I have. Or at least enough.

From what I've seen? That might not be a bad thing. Unless we somehow end up somewhere worse than here.

There's not much in Haven that seems to be worth anything. Which is probably why enough of us are trying to make some sort of frame work that can carry over from reality to reality.

Well, we were in a frozen winter wonderland with invisible monsters last time.

Some buildings carry over from location to location. The police station should theoretically be here still.

Wounds that would turn the area of the body into ice. The most extreme variation would turn you into an ice sculpture.

That sounds very unpleasant. I take it everyone was saved?

They seem to take on an appearance to make them match the locations we're in. They didn't always look like they came from the run down side of a citty.

The ones we could anyways. Some had been gone too long.
