[ There seems to be another new face on the feed today, one that looks a little weary and scruffy as he scratches the side of his cheek with a bit of a frown. Clearly, he hasn't gotten a lot of sleep lately, but it's hard to say whether that's due to his arrival in this new place or the events beforehand. Maybe it's all of the above.

Dropping his hand out of view of the camera, he finally speaks. ]

I guess I should introduce myself, I'm Detective Nick Burkhardt from Portland, Oregon. I've only been here for a couple of days but I got the gist of what's going on from the man named Jerry at the information booth and just from scoping things out but a lot of it really doesn't make sense at the moment.

[ He sighs. ]

I guess the main thing I want to know besides how to get back home is what to expect here. Also, is there any kind of police department or any other emergency services in case there is trouble?

People are rude as hell and like to steal from those who aren’t local. Let’s not even get to the local wildlife.

[ Nick blinked at that but he was taking it in stride. ]

I was just asking questions from someone who has been here longer than I have. If you would rather I ask someone else?

[ He said it angrily, feelings from his world were coming to the surface. ]

And I haven’t been here long. [ So not to answer Nick’s question directly, he didn’t need to ask someone else. ]

I wasn't intending on getting myself killed but I'm not going to ignore it if people are getting hurt.

[ There is a quiet confidence to his voice but it has gentled as well when he sees a surge of anger from the other man. ]

But you've seen more than I have. Or at least enough.

[ His gaze was serious yet warm, not callous. The detective might detect genuine concern. ]

[ He does but that's also a question to be careful about. ]

I didn't arrive with my gun.

[ There is a quiet 'but' there that might suggest he does have something though. ]

If I’m understanding correctly, you’re from Earth. Twenty first century? [ He didn’t wait for an answer. ] The shit outside the walls aren’t like anything found on Earth. You’re not gonna help anyone if you’re not packing something. Maybe just preventing a mugging if they’re not carrying.

You're right about some of that but I am used to strange things. Monsters or strange creatures don't scare me.

[ It wasn’t that Diego didn’t hear him or wouldn’t answer, first things first. He couldn't let the detective get himself killed. ]

I actually meant that I don't fight all monsters. Not that they like being called monsters. [ Yes, he's being vague and he knows it. ]

[ The intense stare softened, a look of understanding washing over him. It wouldn’t be fair to call Luther a monster. …Not that Diego was going to utter that out loud. ]

You might wanna make sure you’ve got something handy on you at all times if you’re going outside the walls. Though I think there are more people who need saving inside of them.

I might take the stance of making sure nothing comes in rather than going out. Or at least trying to stop anything that tries. Might be safer for now until I get myself a little more settled.

A few. [ A vague answer. ]
