[ Johnny's actually got his face in frame today, so kudos for that, but he looks pretty rough this morning. Definitely shocked and more than a little confused. ]

Hey so, uh. They just assign kids to people here? Might've led with that in the brochure.

hey so I'm Johnny and apparently I'm your guardian now? I got a text with your picture but I figured it'd be easier to just reach out. want to meet at Starkbucks to try to figure this out?

You certainly work fast. I just found my house and was going to call you in a bit. As soon as I figured out exactly how my actual home and street got here.

[ Fine, okay, video. He offers a smile he has to force a little thanks to nerves, and shrugs. ]

Oh, you got a house? Cool, I've just got an apartment. I don't know, this place works really weird.

Yep! My house. My home from Connecticut. Distinctly lacking in any of my mothers decorating, but I’d recognize it anywhere.

Connecticut, huh? Where the hell's that? Mine's not even my apartment, it's just what they gave me when I got here.

East of New York. It’s where I was born.

[ Shes going to push her address to him, frowning briefly as she looks back towards her house. It’s so weird seeing her home on her street, but the Kravitz’s house is missing. All of her neighbors homes are missing. So she’s a bit unsettled. ]

I did get your offer of Starkbucks, but I figure you probably know your way around this place better than I do? So maybe we should meet here and head out.

Oh, okay. I'm from California, never really got out until I got here.

[ New York he knows. Everybody knows New York. He nods at the question, looks at the notification that pops up with an address. ]

Yeah, sure thing. Be there in a few.

We've been to California for family vacations and occasionally business trips for my dad.

[ She knows where it is, basically. ]

I'll be here. The door will be unlocked.

[ And the house warded against anyone intent on doing harm. She's already had someone try to pick her pocket. Plus, if Johnny can't get in? She knows not to trust him. ]

[ There's no point in replying, so he doesn't, just kills the feed and heads over. On foot, so it takes a little longer than he'd like, but he gets there in the end. Walks up to the door and knocks first before heading in. ]

...hello?

[ And as Tabatha said, the house is furnished, but undecorated. Whoever her parents were back home, they weren't too badly off, financially. The place is comfortable, even if it lacked her mothers touch.

Once Tabatha hears the door open and the voice calling out, she peeks out from behind the big staircase right at the main entryway. Standing in the dining room, she gives him a small smile and a wave. ]

Mr Lawrence?

[ Just making sure, honestly, and testing the waters with that name. If he doesn't want her calling him that, she won't. ]

I'm going through the kitchen and making a grocery list on the GoGro app. Come on in.

[ He looks around, and it's familiar enough to his own family's. Not as ostentatious, thank fuck, but definitely a ways from his own living situation. ]

Yeah. Hey. You can call me Johnny if you want, Mr Lawrence just makes me feel old.

[ He heads over after her, making sure to close the front door behind him. ]

A kid making a grocery list, well that's a first. What do you even need me for, right?

I like to keep busy.

[A shrug and a small smile, pressing a couple more buttons and sending the list out. ]

That, and I can almost hear my mother fretting over an empty fridge.

[ So, she knows already he's not out to harm her. That's good. She can appreciate that, very much so. And since someone assigned him her guardian, it didn't make sense for him to live elsewhere. So Tabatha has a suggestion. ]

Someone somewhere seems to think I do, and that's fine. Haven is, so far...keeping me on my toes. I wouldn't mind if you moved into this house. That seems to make more sense.

[ He chuckles, soft and almost like he doesn't realize he's doing it, but he shakes away the thought and focuses on the rest of it. Yeah, his mom was usually a pretty good homemaker too. ]

Yeah, at least you missed the glitches, that was a b-- problem.

[ Yeah. He can adult. Absolutely. ]

If you're sure? I mean, I'd say you could move into my apartment but if you've got this house it doesn't really make sense for you to move, yeah.

Glitches?

[ That sounds disconcerting. Tabatha's smile fades and she just looks worried. ]

What do you mean, glitches?

Oh, it's over now, you don't have to worry about it. Just like...your muscles would get all weird all of a sudden and people would see your memories?

[ He's trying not to make it sound as bad as it was, especially with that look on her face. He doesn't want to scare her right away, he's already probably going to screw this up. ]

That sounds awful.

[ She's seen quite a few interesting things in her life, both from the mortal perspective and the witch perspective. She could tell so many stories of all of the magic used around her. From Grandmama Endora's spells on her father, to her Aunt Clara botching the most basic of spells and causing chaos.

But this glitching thing sounds bad. As did seeing other people's memories. ]

I'm glad I missed it, and I'm sorry Haven went through that.

[ He shrugs, a thousand percent more casual than he actually feels about it, but it's...whatever. It happened, it's over, he can live with it. ]

At least it's over with now.

[ Tabatha watches her guardian for a moment, resting a hand on her hip casually. She can see through him trying to act casual about things and wants to poke at it. Just casually. Something small. ]

How weird can this place get? I've heard someone mention it changes sometimes?

[ A small gesture from Tabatha, hand lifting and curling as if she's holding a bottle, thumb flicking upward as if she's popping a cap off of said bottle and just like that, a frosty bottle of Coke appears in her empty hand, bottle cap landing at her feet. Just to see how he'll react. ]

Can't help you much there, I haven't been here that long.

[ And that would have been the end of it if the bottle hadn't appeared out of nowhere. He shoves himself back reflexively, expression nothing short of shocked. ]

It's fine. I'll figure it out, I'm sure. And...

[ A faint wrinkling of her nose, the look apologetic. ]

I probably should have done this another way. I'm a witch. Broom-riding, cauldron stirring, spell-casting witch.

Right. Sure.

[ He still looks shocked, still keeps his distance largely because he doesn't have any experience with this. That's Hollywood shit, or Vegas, it's not real. ]

How did you do it, though? Because that's gotta be a trick.

Witchcraft.

[ As she'd said previously. Sort of. ]

I'm kind of...not supposed to? Back home? My dad wants my mother and brother and I to keep witchcraft to an almost non-existent level. Wants us to be a 'normal family.' But he married a witch, has a witch for a mother-in-law. A for effort, but it's just a ridiculous endeavor, and has been so for years.

Kids aren't that bad.

I know, I'm not saying they are. I teach kids back home. I'm just saying, it's a lot to throw on a guy all of a sudden.

Yeah, I can feel ya on that one. I used to teach kids back home, too, but I don't know that I'd want to be a surprise parent.

Yeah, it's definitely...something.

Are they a good kid at least?

Did they tell you why you were given a kid by chance? Or did they just saddle you with one and hope you figure out the rest?

Are you used to dealing with teenagers? If you are then it makes sense why they randomly, or not so randomly, dropped a teenager on your doorstep.

Yeah, I taught karate before I got here. To teenagers. Plus I've got one of my own.

At least we know this place can do something right.

Wait, they just give us kids? Can we sign something on the brochure that says no, we don't want any?
