[ she didn't catch a whiff of metal on the man, but this is an alien world. ]

[ A look of surprise grew on his face at her question. ]

Maybe. I've never seen a real cyborg. This place has people with powers that I've never heard of before either so anything is possible.

[ There is naked loathing in her tone. ]

That is why I want to know why we are kidnapped.

[ Ty was highly alarmed. It showed in his face and in his voice. ]

[ Almost instant and very firm. ]

[ A look of relief washed over him. ]

Sorry that happened to you. I haven't heard of it happening here although the locals have been a little rude and pushy to those of us who are brought here.

[ Charlie's seated in her apartment, back to the foot of her bed. Nothing too exciting, honestly. ]

So far, it's probably the least horrifying kidnapping I've ever been a part of.

[ Laura eyes her over the video for a long moment, then nods. ]

Me too. I don't like it.

[ When someone locks you in "unbreakable" cuffs, it's easier to extrapolate what they want. ]

I mean, the roof over my head is great. So is all the food I can want, and the job is nice.

But I want to know what they want. Whoever they might be.

[ It isn't a knock against Charlie, just a statement. Man-made shelter is nice but not completely essential. ]

[ Her nose crinkles a little at the 'nice' bit. In Laura's experience, the only people who think she's halfway nice are the other Terigen survivors. ]

Library. It's quiet. I can put headphones on and listen to music instead of...talking to too many people.

[ Laura considers this. ]

Libraries are okay. [ she appreciates all the books. but, ] Listening to music means someone can ambush you. That's not safe.

[ Rebekah replies with a little bit of a huff though, honestly, she is studying the girl closely. ]

But I suppose the cookies weren't so bad. What kind did you get?

I don't like being made to do things I didn't choose.

[ That goes for life in general aside from the job. Laura's expression is fairly unreadable, although Rebekah might detect some stress in her jawline. ]

Neither do I. I prefer to make my own rules as much as I can.

[ Which hasn't always been the easiest thing to do with her brothers which makes her tense as well though she has had a couple of days to deal. So she remains focused on Laura. ]

He gave me macarons which I might still have.

[ She means the macarons. It's easier to talk about food than anything else right now. Laura is still feeling a bit raw about being captive again. ]
