[Sam's a little more used to the devices now, so when the video starts, his face is a normal distance away from this time. He waves and gives an awkward kind of half smile, rubbing at the back of his neck.]

Hey. I'm Sam. I just got here a couple weeks ago. You've probably seen me around. I deliver for SuperWaiters. Uh, what else.

I'm from Earth? America, but maybe a different America from yours. From the East Coast, mostly. I was a delivery person there, too, so I traveled a lot.

[There are some small, sleepy noises in the background and Sam murmurs Oh she's up before swinging the camera around to show a pod with a baby in it, carefully nestled into the crate with blankets]


That's Lou. She's my little girl. She uh, she's a preemie. The pod helps her.

Anyway. [He clears his throat and brings the camera back to him, waving again] I'll probably see you around town.

In general, or just here? Because she was here with me when I woke up. I didn't mean to bring her here anymore than I meant to end up here.

Then whoever brings us here has a sick sense of humour. It's no place for children.

Where I'm from's not really a great place for children, either. Some people keep having them.

Human nature, maybe.

Seem to be a lot of kids running around here. Maybe you should worry about them.

While still children, they're more capable of taking care of themselves. An infant is not.

Are you seriously asking me to justify why I had a kid to you?

No, I'm asking someone to justify why she's here.

I don't have answers. Wish I did. I wish she was home, safe. I have friends who could watch over her, there. But she's here with me now, and you better be damned sure I'm going to protect her with my fucking life.

From what I've heard that may be something you'll have to actually do.
