So, uh, hi. My name is Jean Grey. I've also gone by Marvel Girl and Phoenix more recently but...[ she shrugs and chuckles ] not really sure what the point in keeping superhero codenames would be in a place like this. Just Jean seems pretty good to me.

[ She waves a hand. ] Anyway, I've been trying to get to know people. I'm used to living in a school with a lot of people I know. They're loud sometimes but, I dunno, I guess it's different when you know them. I had a question though, to try to get to know people better. Where I come from it's not uncommon for people to have special gifts. What I wanted to ask is, how common is that where you're all from? And if you're comfortable saying, how many of you have gifts? I'll understand if anyone isn't that comfortable talking about their own, where I'm from it's also super common for humans to hate people with abilities. So, no worries if you don't want to talk about it and thank you to anyone that does.

Hello, Jean. To answer your question, where I'm from it is not uncommon for people to have abilities. In fact, I'm quite sure there are more of them than we know. The public has been slow to come around, but we're making headway. I have none myself.

Different things usually. A really good friend of mine can fire energy blasts. Another friend can control the weather.

I don't know anyone who has special abilities on their own, no. There are stories about people who used to, but...not anymore that I know of.

Where I come from, there are people with gifts. It's not typical, but people are less surprised to see them nowadays.

I'm sorry to hear that. The public has known since last century, on a small scale. We're out and about in their faces right now. Well, nicer than that.

Pretty wide. We've got ice abilities, people who can walk through walls, people who can fly, fire abilities, and that's just a few things.

Don't be sorry, I've still got some hope that we can turn things around. Especially with the second chance we've gotten. It sounds like people in your world have known a lot longer than people in mine.

Maybe they're still around somewhere. People born with them don't always like advertising they're weird.

Yeah, I was. Kind of. We tried to be I guess is more accurate.

I'm not going to say that was why it got chosen, but I'm also not going to deny it.

Less surprised is a step in the right direction, I think. As long as the less surprised doesn't include more inclined to create angry mobs.

It was a brief appearance so many have forgotten, or didn't realize those people had abilities. More have come out recently. It's been a struggle that we still face from some of the public, but most have come around. It's more the government we have to worry about.

That's not surprising. The government tends to flip out about things like that. At least where I'm from they do. I think it's because they see us all as potential weapons and threats.

Exactly. Yet we work with them when we need to.

Does that really make them weird, though? I mean, if they were born that way...

[It doesn't make sense to call someone weird for something they can't help.]

What got in your way?

If you ask regular people, then yeah we're weird.

Uh, a lot of things. Mainly ourselves I think. You know how sometimes people have the best intentions but kinda just mess it all up? That was most of us.

That's pretty cool you can work with them sometimes. Do they let you guys do your own thing too?

Not that I'm aware of. Although the one I'm thinking of has been around since I could remember, so I'm not sure what it was like without him around.

We do more or less what we think is right. If the government doesn't like it, they can chat with me.

You'd think. But I think at the end of the day it's just scary for regular people.
