Oh ah, I beg your pardon. I hope everyone is safe after the storm.

At lunch today, everyone kept asking me what I was going to be for Halloween and if Mr. Stark gave full-sized candy bars.

I told them I would be me and they laughed.

What do they mean then? I don't feel like I can really ask them what does "what will I be for Halloween?" mean. And what is a "full-sized candy bar" and why should Mr. Stark be giving them to anyone?

[Beast has been hearing about it here and there but has yet to put it all together. All Hallow's Eve had never really caught on in France and All Saint's Day wouldn't even be a big thing for another sixty years in the country.]

Oh! I did find out, sir. It's a holiday, to start that is celebrated on October 31st. We call it All Hallows Eve back home, I guess it's called Halloween here.

All Hallows Eve...? [He thinks for a moment.] They celebrate that in England, don't they?

That's just so, sir! Her Majesty the Queen even celebrates it! I've never properly celebrated it, though!

We don't celebrate it in France. [It never did quite catch on with the French the way it had in other parts of Europe.] Her Majesty? I thought a king sat on the throne right now.

Oh no, Queen Victoria has been on the throne for decades! The king before her was King William IV though and before him King George IV, but Queen Victoria has been queen almost four decades now.

Hmmmm, I was sure there was a George on the throne... [George III but Beast had never been all that interested in lessons of learning the royals of Europe.] ...but perhaps I am mistaken.

Oh, there were, sir! A good many King George's on the thrones. At least four before Queen Victoria.

That must be it then. Though I am uncertain which number is on the throne of England right now.

[Someone get this chimera a history book stat.]

Queen Victoria is on the throne! [Well, for Alice, she is.]

Well, that settles it then.

[He's so very woefully ignorant but at least he tries.]

Who is the King of France for you, sir?

Louis. Though I can never remember which one.

[In Beast's defense, they were on number fifteen by the time he was a child.]

I do believe there were a lot of them, that's true.

Perhaps they want the next one to do as well as the previous one.

Did they do very well? I know very little of French kings and queens.

No better or worse than most monarchs I would imagine. I never was at court much.

You have not met the King and Queen of Hearts to say that, I am sure they are much better than them, to say the least.

I have not heard of a King and Queen of Hearts before. Where do they live?

In Wonderland, Mr. Beast. The White Queen and King and Red Queen and King are in the Looking Glass.

I have never heard of such places before. How do you get to them?

[madcuriosity]

Well, Wonderland is beneath England, you need only fall down a rabbit hole for that. And the Looking Glass, well I get to it by going through the mirror above my mantle place, I suppose any mirror would do, though.

It sounds fascinating.

[He wasn't quite sure if the girl was serious or if this was just the fanciful nature of a young child's imagination, but it was amusing to listen to nonetheless.]
