Why hello there!

[Snow is, unsurprisingly, smiling. A glance around her says she's at the high school. A further glance shows that all of her animal friends, even Alarick, are all sitting outside the window, watching her.] I'm learning so many things at school, it's so exciting! But there is something I've heard of but I'm not sure what it means and people just look at me strange when I ask.

What is detention?

You see, I have it for the rest of the week and I'm just really not sure what to do for it. Everything else I've picked up on with some help or was told what it was... although, I'm still not sure what a "ditz" is either though or why people keep calling me that.

But would someone be so kind as to explain detention and what I do there? I just want to be prepared for it. I don't wish to upset the teacher by not being ready! Oh, that's so exciting to say! A teacher! A real teacher! I've never had a human one before coming here. I'm so excited to meet this new one!

[ Evie has off today, so she's at the house. She has stuff behind her on the kitchen counter, ready to prepare dinner, and has stopped in her tracks once she heard what Snow asks. Snow might be smiling, but Evie looks unsure. Bordering on upset, but not with Snow. ]

'Detention'? Did I hear that right, Snow? You have detention?

Why hello there, Evie! Yes, that's right. What is it? [Even if Snow's knowledge of the world hadn't been severely stunted by their mother, it's still more of a modern notion.]

Detention is something people are given when they have done something wrong.

[She isn't sure what exactly the reason could be in this case.]

Though did whoever gave you it explain why they were giving you it?

[ How to explain this without upsetting her dearest sister. It's impossible, but she'll do her best. ]

It means you've done something to upset an authority figure. It's not a good thing. Did they say why they gave you a detention?

Ah. [Yep. That pretty much instantly made Snow White stop smiling.] I upset them? Oh dear, then I should apologize. Is that what I'm to do in detention then? Perhaps make an apology gift?

Oh, they did, yes.

The language teacher was the one who gave it to me. He said I was trying to make a fool out of him, he's the one I must have upset. [Which, considering this is Snow White? Next to impossible.]

He asked how many languages some of us spoke while we were in class today, I explained that I knew German, of course, but that I also understood deer and chipmunk, and then every sort of bird, and went on to list a few more.

I'm not sure why the class laughed, but he got very red in the face. When I saw, I asked if he was feeling bashful because Bashful does the same thing, the next thing I know, I have detention the rest of the week!

But of dear, I'm so sorry I upset him!

I've done something wrong? [The smile falls instantly.] Oh dear. I didn't mean to do anything wrong.

Come to think of it, the language teacher did say that I was trying to make a fool out of him, but I would never try to make a fool out of anyone!

I think he meant what human languages, though the fact that you know so many others from different species entirely is incredible and I'm proud of you for it.

[ She's telling the truth and hoping it helps her out greatly. She'd rather not see her sister upset by a mistake. ]

Snow, would you like me to come down and see if I can talk to your teacher for you? Detention all week sounds excessive, for starters, plus you've not been in a public school setting before. You're still learning how to adjust to that.

Oh... well, I only know German, in that case, I can read Latin, of course. [Because while translated books were becoming all the rage thanks to the printing press, it's not like EVERY book had been translated yet.] You're proud of me, though? [Snow pressed a hand to her cheek. Now SHE'S blushing. No one, LITERALLY NO ONE, had ever said that to her before.]

And I would love for you to come visit me, Evie! I always love seeing you! If you think talking to the teacher would help, I certainly don't mind. I don't want him to have his feelings hurt, after all. [Snow, despite being 14, acts like she's 41 more often than not.]

I'm on my way, lovely, and I'm going to do my best to get this straightened out. Okay? I love you, Snow. I'll see you soon. And, yes. I'm very proud of you. Don't ever forget that.

[ Meanwhile probably every rude word she knows is running through her head and it's an uncomfortable feeling. She turns off her feed and heads to the school and it's about an hour before Snow is called to the main office where Evie is waiting with news. ]

Snow, I'm gonna need the names of everyone that called you a 'ditz' because that's rude of them and I...might need to discuss this with them.

[ With her fist. She's leaving that particular part out of the conversation. But...she doesn't mind detention. ]

[Snow White, being who she is, had made friends with all of the people in detention, even the teacher (because she's Snow White, that's what she does). She wished "Knuckles" the best of luck on his math test and that Mikey G. and his "family" feel free to share his grandmother's lasagna recipe with her the next time they meet.

All of them promised to keep an eye on her and she promised to let them meet her wolf friend, Alarick, though she simply couldn't bring herself to teach them German swear words. When one of Mikey G's family members, Tony B., had asked her that, Mikey had smacked him upside the head.

But off Snow White went her animals moving to the office to make sure she got there just fine.

As soon as she saw Evie, she hugged her.]

Hello, Evie!

You know, that's so funny, Mikey G., he's a boy I met in detention, said the same thing! He and a good deal of his family were in detention too! [Snow does not, in the slightest, realize Mikey is the child of a mobster.] Knuckles asked me the same thing!

But let's see... oh, I'm afraid I'm still learning names, but they were in my Language class, I really must learn their names as we have music and home economics together as well. I think... hmm, her name started with an S? Or was it a C? Oh, I'm sure I'll think of it, Gwen! It was her and her friends. I've never heard the word before, have you?

[ Evie'd approve of people looking out for her, honestly. She might not like their methods, but Evie knows she can't be around snow 24/7 much like she'd like. And she knows that Snow has her own independence and way of doing things and Fairy Godmother bless her for it.

When Snow steps into the room, it's just in time to hear Evie thank the teacher with a grin on her face and then she's turning and smiling at Snow and hugging her. ]

I have great news, but I'm going to let your teacher tell you. Let's just say I might have cleared a few things up just a little bit.

I know Mikey G.

[ She's not going to say they're friends, because she and Mikey just barely get along. But if he's looking out for Snow, Gwen...no, she's still gonna look out for Snow, too. ]

Was it Suzanne? There's a girl in one of my dance classes named Suzanne and she's kind of a b...uh...hmm.

[ GWEN THERE IS A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR PEOPLE WHO TEACH SNOW WHITE SWEAR WORDS. ]

She's kind of a brat. I...am not a fan. She's really unpleasant.

Isn't he just the sweetest! He's going to share his grandmother's recipe with me! Oh, after I share my pie recipe with her, of course. I'm meeting her next Tuesday!

Oh! Yes! That's the name! You're so good with them, Gwen! Yes, I remember now, Suzanne, Margo, and Karen. They're all very close friends, yes? Is ditz a modern nickname?

Now, I'm sure Suzanne has her sweet side! Everyone does!

We in the dance class have yet to see it. She's tripped a few people for laughs. But I'm sure if anyone can get her sweet side to show, it's probably you.

Ditz is not a nice name. It's sort of...they're questioning your intelligence. They're being mean. It's a modern insult.

[The teacher, for his part, looked a bit flushed before clearing his throat and explaining that, perhaps, since Snow is so new and coming from such a unique background, he may have been... hasty in assuming she was trying to be a class clown and truly had, instead, misunderstood his questions. But since he had assigned detention, she would at least need to serve tomorrow but that would be it.]

Oh! That's wonderful! I will have to tell the boys in detention I won't be able to see them after tomorrow though. We've become fast friends.

Evie, you are an incredible explainer!

Oh my, that isn't very nice, that's true. But I'll see if I can ask her to stop.

... Oh... I see... well, it isn't very nice, but I have been called worse things. [By Grumpy, no less.] I'm sure with time and understanding, we'll come to be friends.

[She paused for a moment. That was an odd thing to say...Was that a reason?]

I can't say I know what they mean? Did you try to do something without realising it, or something you are used to but the other might not be?

[ While the teacher is explaining what happened, Evie is standing by, hands folded respectfully behind her back as she listened, watching Snow for her reaction. ]

Thank you, Snow. We'll have the boys over for dinner some night soon, okay? Tell them that much, at least. Are you ready to head home? We have to stop at Freshway to pick up an order of food for Alarick, but other than that, we're good to head home and finish making dinner for ourselves.

Oh! We're invited over to their's as well to have their grandmother's lasagna! It's so nice that they have such a big family, isn't it? [She doesn't... get that some of them aren't actually related. But Snow has always wanted a ridiculously large family, it's why she's basically the matriarch of the dwarven household.]

And that's alright, Alarick is just outside waiting since they don't let wolves and other animals into the school! OH! Evie, there's a new recipe I want to try just for you! It's our final for the year, to make a chocolate souffle! I've never had one but I think I should be able to make it! Will you be my very first taste tester?

Well, the language teacher asked how many languages we spoke, and when I said I could speak German, chipmunk, squirrel, bird, and so much more, everyone laughed and he got so very red in the face. I asked him if he was feeling Bashful because Bashful does that all the time too!

Detention? It's uh...not really a good thing.

You don't really seem like the type who'd get detention, though.

Ah, I think it must be because of something you would consider a language but isn't exactly classed the same for others.

In this instance, you answered honestly and people thought it might have been a joke so it annoyed the teacher... So basically this seems more like a misunderstanding.

Depends on who gives you the detention and where you serve it. I have one this Saturday because I always have detention.

Mainly because I was late one too many times but also because I always have detention.
