Why hello there!

[Snow is, unsurprisingly, smiling. A glance around her says she's at the high school. A further glance shows that all of her animal friends, even Alarick, are all sitting outside the window, watching her.] I'm learning so many things at school, it's so exciting! But there is something I've heard of but I'm not sure what it means and people just look at me strange when I ask.

What is detention?

You see, I have it for the rest of the week and I'm just really not sure what to do for it. Everything else I've picked up on with some help or was told what it was... although, I'm still not sure what a "ditz" is either though or why people keep calling me that.

But would someone be so kind as to explain detention and what I do there? I just want to be prepared for it. I don't wish to upset the teacher by not being ready! Oh, that's so exciting to say! A teacher! A real teacher! I've never had a human one before coming here. I'm so excited to meet this new one!

Why hello there, Evie! Yes, that's right. What is it? [Even if Snow's knowledge of the world hadn't been severely stunted by their mother, it's still more of a modern notion.]

It means you've done something to upset an authority figure. It's not a good thing. Did they say why they gave you a detention?

Ah. [Yep. That pretty much instantly made Snow White stop smiling.] I upset them? Oh dear, then I should apologize. Is that what I'm to do in detention then? Perhaps make an apology gift?

Oh, they did, yes.

The language teacher was the one who gave it to me. He said I was trying to make a fool out of him, he's the one I must have upset. [Which, considering this is Snow White? Next to impossible.]

He asked how many languages some of us spoke while we were in class today, I explained that I knew German, of course, but that I also understood deer and chipmunk, and then every sort of bird, and went on to list a few more.

I'm not sure why the class laughed, but he got very red in the face. When I saw, I asked if he was feeling bashful because Bashful does the same thing, the next thing I know, I have detention the rest of the week!

But of dear, I'm so sorry I upset him!

I think he meant what human languages, though the fact that you know so many others from different species entirely is incredible and I'm proud of you for it.

[ She's telling the truth and hoping it helps her out greatly. She'd rather not see her sister upset by a mistake. ]

Snow, would you like me to come down and see if I can talk to your teacher for you? Detention all week sounds excessive, for starters, plus you've not been in a public school setting before. You're still learning how to adjust to that.

Detention is something people are given when they have done something wrong.

Come to think of it, the language teacher did say that I was trying to make a fool out of him, but I would never try to make a fool out of anyone!

I can't say I know what they mean? Did you try to do something without realising it, or something you are used to but the other might not be?

Well, the language teacher asked how many languages we spoke, and when I said I could speak German, chipmunk, squirrel, bird, and so much more, everyone laughed and he got so very red in the face. I asked him if he was feeling Bashful because Bashful does that all the time too!

Ah, I think it must be because of something you would consider a language but isn't exactly classed the same for others.

In this instance, you answered honestly and people thought it might have been a joke so it annoyed the teacher... So basically this seems more like a misunderstanding.

You know, that's so funny, Mikey G., he's a boy I met in detention, said the same thing! He and a good deal of his family were in detention too! [Snow does not, in the slightest, realize Mikey is the child of a mobster.] Knuckles asked me the same thing!

But let's see... oh, I'm afraid I'm still learning names, but they were in my Language class, I really must learn their names as we have music and home economics together as well. I think... hmm, her name started with an S? Or was it a C? Oh, I'm sure I'll think of it, Gwen! It was her and her friends. I've never heard the word before, have you?

[ She's not going to say they're friends, because she and Mikey just barely get along. But if he's looking out for Snow, Gwen...no, she's still gonna look out for Snow, too. ]

Was it Suzanne? There's a girl in one of my dance classes named Suzanne and she's kind of a b...uh...hmm.

She's kind of a brat. I...am not a fan. She's really unpleasant.

Isn't he just the sweetest! He's going to share his grandmother's recipe with me! Oh, after I share my pie recipe with her, of course. I'm meeting her next Tuesday!

Oh! Yes! That's the name! You're so good with them, Gwen! Yes, I remember now, Suzanne, Margo, and Karen. They're all very close friends, yes? Is ditz a modern nickname?

Now, I'm sure Suzanne has her sweet side! Everyone does!

We in the dance class have yet to see it. She's tripped a few people for laughs. But I'm sure if anyone can get her sweet side to show, it's probably you.

Ditz is not a nice name. It's sort of...they're questioning your intelligence. They're being mean. It's a modern insult.

Depends on who gives you the detention and where you serve it. I have one this Saturday because I always have detention.

Mainly because I was late one too many times but also because I always have detention.

Mr. McCorrin is the one presiding over my detention, I've already made friends with Knuckles and with Mikey G. and his family! [Snow doesn't realize his family is the mob.] Mikey H. is having me over to try his grandmother's lasagna, in fact! I've never had that before! He says it's the best in the world, isn't that sweet?

But a bit of a misunderstanding happened regarding my detention.

[ Peter probably remembers Evie's tone from the Voidtrain as light, warm and caring. Friendly and kind. Unless someone pisses her off (Like Khary did that one time) then the tone shifts and it's so very obvious she's upset. She loves Peter. He's family to her, and so is Snow. ]

Oh my! I... well, I'm sure no one... "had it out for you," Peter. [Just... gonna ignore the "asshole" comment.] You're a very sweet boy, after all...

But I don't know if you need to call someone that.
