Hello.

My name is Alan Wake - if you have seen someone here before me who has said that he is Alan Wake, he is lying. That man is not human, he is a being of darkness made real in my image. It's a long story.

Do NOT trust him. He is dangerous. He has hurt people before and I don't doubt he'll do it again.

[He stops writing his message and stares at the username. It takes a moment to click but when it does, it does. And then he wonders how the FBC is handling their director going missing.]

I hope Hartman wasn't too much trouble for you.

[ The FBC is probably going to go into yet another full-blown panic mode. Unless traveling dimensions is different and time doesn't pass the same? That's a question she'll need to ask others. Regardless, she does need to get back.

But... this Wake does mention a name they're both familiar with. That's more than the other. And, oddly enough, that's enough to convince her. For now. ]

So, YOU know about Hartman. I guess I don't need to keep asking questions then.

When Thomas Zane wrote himself out of existence, it left a hole where he used to be and it affected those who did remember him in a way he didn't expect. He must have thought that sending Scratch on my behalf was the best option instead of the alternative.

Thomas Zane used The Dark Place's power to create a copy of me. Because he's made out of Darkness, I shouldn't have been surprised that he became twisted but I was desperate. I didn't think ahead either or else maybe I could have stopped him.

[ There's a private function on this thing ... right? Best to put that on so they can talk--text--more plainly.

That explains why everyone thought I was making things up about his poems. Zane, I mean.

I'm guessing your doppleganger doesn't have your memories. Or, the recent ones? He had no idea about anything that happened in the Investigations Sector. Not that I gave him the details either...

[OOC: but if it's a simple changing of the privacy setting between them, then he can keep up with that.]

I'm surprised you found any of his poetry. Then again, from my own experience with changing reality it's not perfect. The Mandela Effect exists for a reason.

We don't share a mind so now that Scratch is his own being he has his own memories to make. I didn't even know he was still existing after all these years until Zane told me. I hoped he was gone for good after the last encounter I had with him.

( i can see him not being tech savvy! incoming teasing in the future. )

I had a few books. I was more surprised that no one else seemed to know who he was.

That explains a few things. If it helps? I hadn't heard about him until we showed up here. There were plenty of rumors going on about Alan Wake, but, the documents we have prove those rumors weren't... accurate.

Without knowing what he did before I can imagine why you'd be surprised.

Not much of a relief if whatever he's doing has rumors circulating about me. But if there's enough for the FBC to go on to know it's not me then maybe

[He's about to type "maybe someone will catch on and stop him" but then he stops and has to think about how Scratch is here, along with him, Alice, and Jesse. And then he starts to wonder... if they exist here, is this the sole place they exist? Or do they simultaneously exist back where they came from? This is too much to think about, he's not a scientist.]

I'm not sure the FBC can contain him just yet. Not unless you have a suggestion on containment? Hartman did a number on the Investigations Sector. Not to mention the state the rest of the Oldest House is in.

Presuming you know a lot about the Hiss, anyways.

[ She figures Wake knows more than a few things. He... wrote, knew (?) about it to communicate the fact that Hartman had been affected by it. That reminds her. ]

[He's still unsure himself whether the Hiss was something he saw and tapped into creatively, if it was a case of some cosmic simultaneous invention, or if he was in part responsible for its creation. All the steps he had to take in an attempt to write his escape after years of being trapped left he himself unsure of where reality ended and his attempts at creation began.]

You - in order to make a phone call you need a number to dial. I had already made a connection to the Oldest House before when Alice went there. It helped connect a doorway to the motel which shares a door with the FBC. I had the area code but I couldn't have made the call to anyone other than you. You were the only number available in my metaphorical phone book.

I think on paper I wrote you as a receiver, actually, but the phone analogy still applies.

That's probably more than what you want to know.

[ She wouldn't want to wish the knowledge of the Hiss on anyone. Unless, of course, they had to know. But, Alan knows something in order to write--retell--what happened with Hartman. ]

So, because Alice Wake was brought in during the Bright Falls Investigation, you could connect to the Oldest House and then me. I'm guessing that just making an appointment was out of the question.

[ She's trying to make a joke at least. ]

That's the one. Still not sure why it's a spiral. Couldn't exactly look up anything online regarding symbology and metaphors or anything where I was.

I guess I could now.

Yeah. You could say I was under house arrest. :)

Spiraling down? Up? Let me know if I've hit something that might be onto an idea.

That's one hell of a house arrest.

Then again, the Oldest House is still on lockdown...
